"JusB, the Bromley-based youth charity, has been awarded the accolade of Investors in Volunteers quality standard. Only 3 charities in the London Borough of Bromley have achieved this award (the others are Community Links Bromley and Bromley’s Age Concern).
Young People benefit because Investing in Volunteers improves the quality of volunteering, and also acknowledges the enormous contribution that volunteers make.
Over the course of a year JusB delivers 11 projects to the young people in Bromley ranging from centre-based activities which include an advice and information centre offering advice, support, guidance and information on a range of issues. A music studio project, teaching music production and technology to young people; FNX for 11-13 year olds on a Friday evening and the Zone for 14-18 year olds on a Tuesday evening which offers stimulating and appealing activities for the young people who come along to the centre, detached youth work where our youth workers go out on the streets and meet young people where they are, a schools programme were our youth team give extra support to young people who need extra support to achieve their best in school, this support can often encourage young people to attend school for frequently. We also have a full summer programme; in 2009 we planned a number of activities which included Horse riding, Bowling, Animation, film making and Guitar lessons.
On Wednesday 9th December at 7.45pm, JusB celebrated this achievement by inviting, Investing in Volunteers representative Sinéad Whelan, who is Head of Marketing and Operations and an Investing in Volunteers lead to unveil the prestigious plaque. “Completing the quality standard was a great achievement for JusB” says Tammy Blaikie-Gould, Volunteer Coordinator for JusB, “It significantly helped me to review the Volunteer programme as we worked through the process to ensure that we are delivering best practice so as to benefit the young people of Bromley”. JusB will endeavour to focus on best practice within our volunteer programme for 2010 and beyond.
This celebration was combined with JusB’s Annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony and Volunteer Christmas Party, which was a great hit. There was a relaxed and buzzing atmosphere at the centre, and everyone was full of the Christmas party spirit. As the evening progressed into the volunteer awards ceremony, Cecil Heatly JusB’s Chaplin gave a few words and thanks to all for coming. At the awards ceremony, we wanted to recognise and celebrate individuals who have given exceptional service and contributed to the on going needs of the charity. It goes without saying that, although we are recognising a number of individuals, we are ever grateful to all of our volunteers who demonstrate a tireless commitment to the young people that access JusB’s 11 projects.
